Benefits for New York City |
|
| |
New
York City stands to gain in many ways by designating the Henry
Hudson Parkway a New York State Scenic Byway:
-
Greater local participation in decisions that affect our
quality of life and local economy
- Access
to federal funds for enhancements for the parkway corridor
- A
watershed approach to stormwater management on the roadway
that reduces the burden on the City's infrastructure (sewers,
treatment plants, and combined sewer overflows), and water
bodies (Hudson and Harlem Rivers)
- Clarification
of agency jurisdictions and responsibilities for maintenance
- A
model for the management of the city's other parkways
- The
opportunity to create public-private partnerships for the
stewardship of the parkland corridor
- Economic
and sustainable development in the form of increased property
values, tourism, and greater respect for and stewardship
of the City's assets
- Synergy
with the City's other West Side projects, like the Hudson
River Park, Riverside Park South, the Hudson River Greenway
and the Harlem waterfront development
