Wooden guardrails were deliberately chosen to line the service roads in the Fieldston area of Riverdale, in keeping with the community's unique rustic character.

As sections deteriorate, however, they are replaced with whatever happens to be in DOT's warehouse. The result is a patchwork of materials and styles.
