The Riverdale Historic District is the area one block west of the Parkway between 252nd and 254th Streets, adjacent to Wave Hill. The Landmarks Preservation Commission called it the first non-urban, romantic suburb, “a completely idyllic picture of terraced hills, and meandering stone walls, of stately villas and fanciful carriage houses.” It was the first designation by the Commission on the basis of landscape.
